An Inexpensive Kitchen Backsplash

When we moved to Iowa, we purchased a foreclosure in need of much care. I would like to share with you a series of inexpensive ways in which we have updated our home.

We were in need of a new kitchen backsplash.  After searching about, we decided that we preferred the "tin metal" look. However,  the options we found were too expensive.  So we set out to find a simple, budget-friendly alternative.  We decided to go with wallpaper...

                                                             (Excuse the poor picture)

We found a wallpaper that had a textured pattern and was intended to be painted. After much sampling of color combinations on scrap pieces, we painted the wallpaper the same color as our walls. We then used a "vintage gold" paint to highlight the textured design.

In order to create a "tinted" look, we used a  dry brush with very little paint.  We blotted the excess paint off prior to gently brushing the remainder on in one direction only.  Applying consistent pressure on the brush requires a bit of practice.  Thankfully, we had quite a bit of extra "test run" paper.

The total project was literally less than $20 to complete.  I hope I can encourage you to find simple, inexpensive alternatives to help you make your house feel like a home.
Thank you for joining me.
